Pattern or Routine...

We do things everyday. We have responsibilities everyday. Some things that we do may require more thought than other things we do, with that said, are we following a pattern or a routine?

The New Oxford American Dictionary definition for pattern is "a regular and intelligible form or sequence discernible in certain actions or situations." The definition for routine is "a sequence of actions regularly followed." These words are very similar but there is a key word that distinguishes the two definitions, intelligible.

How many activities do we participate in with no thought or love? Laurence J Peter says, "Going to church doesn't make you a Christian anymore that going to a garage makes you a mechanic."

May we be Christians who think about how we love and live. May we be Christians who follow the Pattern that is far better than a routine.

It is written in Ephesians 5:1-2 (msg) "Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that."
